getting away

Last weekend, we got away from it all.  As we pulled in to the campsite, we got a message from AT&T that we were entering international calling zone and we'd be charged $15/minute/GB of usage, so....we turned off our phones.  And enjoyed every minute of it.

We stayed at Salt Creek Campsite for Friday night and Saturday night.  Left Sunday to hit up Dungeness Spit for a walk along the beach.  We made it about 2 miles in to the 5.5 round trip.  We stopped to throw a few rocks, and never went a step further.

Friday we took our time getting there: 4 stops, 4 hours total but it was a nice relaxed trip.  First top, liquor store for bailey for my coffee, a camping tradition.  While there we remembered the liquor stores are going private June 1 so we stocked up a bit.  Next stop bathroom for walter, then coffee (we remembered the bailey, but not the coffee for the french press).  Third stop was to wait for the bridge and 4th  stop was on the side of the road to nurse.  When we got there we explored the beach at high tide, explored the campsite and set up camp.  Brian and Melissa beat us there (maybe because it's just the 2 of them??) The rest of the crew started rolling in around dinner time.  It was light out till just before 10pm.  Both boys slept great, Wesley went 8 hours between feedings, his longest stretch ever.

Saturday we woke up and lazed around the campsite.  We tide pooled at low tide and then we hit up a close-ish hike.  A flat hike around a beautiful lake.  The campers without 4 year old short legs continued on where we stopped and turned around at about 2 1/2 miles in.  Still an impressive showing for Walter!  As we were driving back to the campsite, we saw the clouds and fog roll in.  It got cooler but didn't rain.  Wesley slept with me that night.  He still slept really well but I didn't sleep as well with him bundled up next to me.

Sunday breakfast was our meal.  We did eggs, bacon, sausage and pancakes.  We played cards and read and chatted before packing up and hitting the road.  We took our time getting back and delayed reality as long as possible.  We need to do this more.  It's way too much fun and so so necessary to unplug and just have the time together.  Enjoy the pictures!

You are so right! How lucky you are to have friends who love the same adventures. Treasure these moments and try to take advantage of every opportunity you have to share them. Sounds like you have 2 perfect little ones for just such adventures! Lucky you!
